System Wide Updates 03/14/2009

The last 2 days I have been busy at work getting the site more user friendly for all to play with. With that said, I wanted to share a few updates with you. Also, I wanted to announce that we are now starting a new Blog Carnival for the members of The Wordless Blog. If you look at the side bar to the right, you will see the widget. On the widget is a submission button. The Wordless Blog Carnival will post each and every Wednesday at 6 AM EST. The submissions are due no later than 8 PM EST on Mondays. This Monday will be skipped as the first carnival is not scheduled until the 25th. You are only allowed to submit one post per week and must be a member of The Wordless Blog to submit. The post must come from your blog here as well. In doing this, it will create more of a “FEATURED” type post that will be publicized and promoted throughout the social media network. If you would like to see how this works, you can view the latest Athletic Alley Blog Carnival published by Rich Dansereau.

New Features Added

Facebook Plugin called WordBook

The second thing that we have brought to the users of The Wordless Blog is a better integration with facebook. In the past, when you shared an article on facebook, people could click on the link and even though it appeared to go back to your paged, it really didn’t. instead it went to a subpage of face book and really just increased their page views. Also, if someone commented, it went to your facebook wall instead of the article that you wrote. Well, now, that will not happen with your articles written here. Instead the readers will click the link to read the rest of the article and it will take them back to the article you wrote. Also, ALL of your articles will be submitted for you automatically. you will no longer need to submit it to facebook from your TWB site. All you need to do is set it up and here is the instructions to do that.

To activate: Log into your dashboard>post>plugins

Once in plugins, activate woodbook.

Click on settings on your dashboard toolbar and go down to woodbook and click on it. From there, you can activate your settings and you are on your way to driving more traffic back to your site.

Twitter Plugin called TwitMe

Ok, here is one that I am really stoked about. This plugin intergrates twitter with your TWB account and allows you to access your twitter dashboard right inside your TWB dashboard. And what is even better than that, it also tweets your articles when they are published or even updated automatically. This way, it is fed into twitter with no extra work. I do not know many multi-users that have that much capabilities to them. Here is how to set this plugin up as well.

To activate: Log into your dashboard>post>plugins

Once in plugins, activate twitme.

refresh your dashboard page

twitme will be on the bottom left side. Click on it and click on settings. Fill it out and happy tweeting.

Adding Widgets and Gadgets has never been so easy

Well, the last thing that people have been asking for is the ability to add widgets and gadgets on their own. After much converstations, we had originally decided against it until I came across a widget that does not require me to change coding in the network to allow a user to add these. So, I have added this widget and here are the instructions to activate this one.

Log into you dashboard. Go to settings>Widgetize Any HTML – Click to open

In the options screen, choose how many of them you think you might use over time. (this can be changed if you run out of the amount you choose.

Update when finished.

Go to Appearance>Widgets

Add the Widgetize Any HTML to the appropriate sidebar and edit to add code. You can name if you like. Update and you are on your way.
